Of Mouse and Man

When his mother dies after 50 years of belittling him, mouse-like Brian Ellis has to discover who he is. A rather mysterious fellow student from long-ago university days comes to Brian’s antiquarian bookshop with a proposition. It is destined to give Brian a purpose and a way forward.

A whimsical tale of one man’s inner turmoil and his path through it, with much humour, even more food and drink – and a therapeutic cat.

Creation

Creation is everywhere in the small city of Chervil, destined to culminate in a performance of Haydn’s Creation by the local choral society and orchestra in the Cathedral.

We follow Arthur (rather soft bass) and Beryl (stupendous first flute) as they move towards the performance, their progress hampered by rabbits, Gnoxies (don’t ask), and the mistake of bringing in students of the local voice academy to do the solos. Not to mention a jester and Blind Bella (the local version of the Delphic Oracle), and her gnomic utterances.

At last! Find out all about:

  • the Truth app

  • a boy brought up by dogs (allegedly)

  • how Vermeer's Milkmaid went missing

  • the Cheese Fairy – Emmenthal Crackers

  • how a pedigree cow led her sisters to the promised land

  • why Poseidon required the sacrifice of a bull

  • why pigeons peck off their toes

  • how to exorcise a chicken

  • the truth about the Royal Orb and Sceptre
